Rifkin, Joshua
Born of Russian Jewish ancestry in New York, Joshua Rifkin (1944-) practiced a multi-faceted musical career including pianist, harpsichordist, conductor, musicologist, and occasional composer. He made his mark in all of these areas, perhaps most notably in the realm of early music performance, where his ideas and practices would often put him at odds with his peers.
