Jennings, Waylon

Waylon Jennings (1937-2002) was a key figure in the "outlaw" break from Nashville's Music Row system in the 1970s. Disenchanted with the established record labels, Jennings went to record with fellow rebel Tompall Glaser and soon achieved a musical breakthrough with his "Honky Tonk Heroes" album (1973), featuring the songs of Billie Joe Shaver. Since the 1980s Jennings has been part of The Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. Jennings was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2001.
