Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) is a chronic liver disease, in which the patient's immune system attacks the liver, causing slow, progressive damage to the bile ducts. The exact cause of PBC is unknown. It generally strikes women between the ages of 40 and 60, although it is seen in different ages and in men, as well.
