Lakatameia Nicosia District Cyprus

Lakatamia is a suburb of Nicosia. Officially the town is split into two different entities : Upper and Lower Lakatamia. The village was used to be co-inhabited by Greek and Turkish Cypriots until mid-1950s.It's name originates from "alakatia" i.e. wells which were apparently abundant in the village of old. Due to the expansion of the Nicosia urban area, Lakatamia has seen considerable population growth in the past years and has grown from two small villages into a sizable suburb.
