Office of Science and Technology Policy

The Office of Science and Technology Policy has a number of subdivisions including the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), and the National Security and International Affairs Division. The United States Senate confirms the appointment of the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology who serves as OSTP's Director.

• - Provides the President with policy advice in areas of fundamental science, education and scientific literacy, investment in applied research, and international cooperation.
  
• - Provides access to data and information on global environmental change research, adaptation/mitigation strategies and technologies, and global warming related educational resources for users worldwide.
  
• - advises and assists the NSTC to increase the overall effectiveness and productivity of Federal research and development (R&D) efforts in the area of the environment and natural resources.
  
• - Cabinet-level Council is the principal means for the President to coordinate science, space, and technology to coordinate the diverse parts of the Federal research and development enterprise.
