Breckinridge County was formed in 1800. It is located in the Louisville-Lincoln region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 383 to 920 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 18,648 in a land area of 572.41 square miles. The county seat is Hardinsburg.
