This county is named for William H. "Alfalfa Bill" Murray, president of the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention and ninth Governor of Oklahoma. Cherokee, the county seat, was the object of lengthy litigation based on county boundary disputes early in its history. Land Area: 881 square miles
