Tillman Counties Oklahoma United StatesTillmanBordering Texas at the Red River, part of the county was in Comanche, Kiowa and Apache grazing lands opened for settlement by lottery June 9 to August 6, 1901. The southeastern part, in the Big Pasture, was opened by sealed bids in December 1906. These lands became part of Comanche County, Oklahoma Territory, until statehood, when Tillman County was organized and given the name of the famous U.S. Senator Benjamin Tillman of South Carolina.
