The club can trace its history to 1904 with the foundation of the club called Naples. The modern club was created in 1926 and competed in the national league for the first time that year.Perhaps the best remembered player in Napoli history is the great Argentine forward Diego Maradona. He played for Napoli from 1984 to 1991, leading the club to the only two Serie A titles in its history, a UEFA Cup title and one of its three Italian Cups.
