This automated monthly registration helps ensure that your web site stays listed and that the search engines will index any changes to your pages. This gives you a huge advantage over your competitors!
Web Site Traffic Analysis
Once your web site has been activated, your online stats page will be made available to show how many visitors your web site is receiving, from what ISP, what pages are visiting the most, what time of day, what search engines they are using, and what search terms they used to find your site.
E-mail Forwarding/Aliasing
E-mail forwarding - also called e-mail aliasing - allows you to have multiple addresses (e.g. webmaster@yourdomain.com, sales@yourdomain.com, etc.) forwarded to one or more e-mail accounts that you maintain with your local ISP. This lets you leverage your domain name so that your e-mail messages will show your own domain instead of your ISP's. This is different from POP Service in that you would have to have a separate account with your local ISP for each forwarding e-mail address that you use. For example if you want prez@yourdomain.com to go to your mailbox and sales@yourdomain.com to go to your marketing director's mailbox, you would have to maintain a separate ISP account for each of these people. To avoid this, you may wish to host your site on a virtual server with POP Service.
CGI-BIN Directory
Full access to your own CGI-BIN directory comes with each virtual server. You can run scripts, logging programs, anything that requires installation in the CGI directory.
Server Configuration Files
You will have access to your virtual server configuration files, such as access.conf, httpd.conf, srm.conf, and mime.types. You can perform automatic page redirects without complex scripting, even your own error pages (no more 404 Not Founds!) - total control over the functionality of your virtual server. Naturally, you also have access to create your own cron files - programs which run at a specified time.
RealServer
RealServer gives you RealAudio and RealVideo capability where you can deliver video and sound files to the user without lengthy download times; the data is "streamed" to the user.
The Virtual Server FTP Service
Much of the traffic on the Internet is done via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Having a virtual server with FTP service allows your business to make files, programs, and catalogs available to your customers easily and efficiently, which can save your company considerable expense on printing and mailing costs. You can also dedicate a portion of your FTP area for visitor uploads, either anonymously or with login access.
Your Virtual Server FTP Service will also allow you to have a simple FTP address such as
"ftp.yourdomain.com" that will appear to your customers as if you have your own
dedicated server.
The Virtual Server POP Service
The Virtual Server POP Service enables your company to have a complete Internet mail system without the cost and complications of maintaining a commercial gateway at your place of business. E-mail messages are stored on your virtual server, and later retrieved using the e-mail client of your choice (Eudora, Pegasus, Postmark, etc.).
You will still need to maintain a dial-up account through your local ISP, but after connecting each person in your company can have their own POP mailbox, along with their own username and password. For example you can have prez@yourdomain.com, your marketing director can have sales@yourdomain.com, and so on. Having multiple mailboxes using a single dial-up account can save your company hundreds of dollars a year.
The Virtual Server SMTP (Email) Service
The Virtual SMTP Service allows you to have aliased e-mail addresses. E-mail aliasing
will provide your company to have e-mail addresses linked to your own domain. Your
address might be "sales@yourdomain.com" and not an extension of your local access
providers name. For example, an e-mail sent by a customer to sales@yourdomain.com would be forwarded to your ISP account yourname@yourprovider.net and would be transparent to the customer.
You could also set up multiple aliases such as info@yourdomain.com, johndoe@yourdomain.com, etc., all forwarded to an existing ISP account. Thus any e-mail message sent to these addresses could be read when you logged in to yourname@yourprovider.net.
Autoresponders
Autoresponders allow you to automatically send a canned message to people who e-mail for information - without human intervention! This is very handy at 3 a.m. when you would rather be sleeping....
