Originally a children's television presenter, his first major film role came in the 1990 comedy "All for the Winner". He received a succession of award nominations during the 1990's, and in 2002, won a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor and Best Director for the 2001 movie "Shaolin Soccer". He was born in Shanghai, China on 22nd June 1962.
