Garfield, John Actors and Actresses Acting Performing Arts


John Garfield (1913 New York - 1952 New York) was a Jewish actor, born as Jacob Julius Garfinkle. In 1932 he changed his name to Jules Garfield and made his Broadway debute. At the beginning of 1930s he played in theatre mostly. When signing a contract with Warner Bros., his name was changed to John Garfield. He was always given only cynical roles, although he desired to play various roles. Later he was accused in being a Communist, he went through a divorce, and died into heart disease at the age of 39. His famous roles include Mickey Borden in "Four Daughters" (1938), Johnnie Bradfield in "They Made Me a Criminal" (1939), Gabriel Lopez in "Daughters Courageous" (1939), Tommy Gordon in "Castle on the Hudson" (1940), and Frank Chambers in "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946).
