National Libraries Culture, Media and Sport Government United Kingdom

The national (UK) development agency working for and on behalf of museums, libraries and archives and advising government on policy and priorities for the sector.

• The National Library of Wales - Created in 1907 to serve scholars, researchers and large users national libraries of information. Now responsible to the National Assembly of Wales.
• The National Library of Scotland - Originally established in 1682 to serve scholars, researchers culture, media and national libraries sport and large users of information. Now responsible to culture, media national libraries and sport the Scottish Executive.
• Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) - The national (UK) development agency working for and on behalf of museums, libraries and archives and advising government on policy and priorities for the sector.
• The British Library - Formed in 1973 to serve scholars, researchers and government large users national libraries of information. Based in London and government Boston Spa.
