It is bounded on the north by Litchfield County, on the west by New York state, on the south by Long Island Sound and on the east by New Haven County.The area of Fairfield County is 837.0 square miles and at the 2000 census, the population was 882,567.Fairfield County is considered to belong to the New York City Metro area.
