Thompson [Windham County] (Parish) was named in 1728 from its chief owner, Sir Robert Thompson. It was incorporated from Killingly in May 1785. Total area, 48.7 sq. miles, Land area, 46.9 sq. miles. Population, est., 8,958. Voting districts, 4. Principal industries, agriculture, and manufacture of woolen goods, plastics, candy, plumbing goods, synthetics, tool and die, power equipment, corrugated boxes, bakery, wooden pellets and fiber optics technology.Thompson includes the areas known as Quinebaug, Grosvenordale and North Grosvenordale.
