Dragoons Horse Mounted Cavalry

Dragoons were originally horse-mounted infantry, in which soldiers would employ horses for transportation to and from the place of battle (and occasionally amid battle). They would, however, dismount to fight as foot soldiers. Today, many modern armoured regiments retain the term "dragoon" for historic reasons.
