Kyd, Thomas

(1558-94)English Renaissance playwright. Author of The Spanish Tragedy, an exceptionally popular play on the Elizabethan stage. The Spanish Tragedy was one of Shakespeare's sources for Hamlet and is an early example of revenge tragedy.
