Visconti, Luchino

(1906-1976) Italian director of motion pictures, operas, plays, and ballets, considered by many to be the originator of the influential neorealist movement of Italian cinema, which emphasized authenticity rather than the artificial and romanticized visual style of most Italian films in the 1930s and early 1940s.
