The 39 Steps - UK (1935), directed by Alfred Hitchcock from the novel by John Buchan. A spy (Madeleine Carroll) is murdered. The man who befriended her, a Canadian visitor to London (Robert Donat), is suspected, but eludes the police until a chase across Scotland produces the real villains.
