Billings, William B Composers CompositionBillings, WilliamBorn in the Classical period, American composer, author of choral music, tanner, and patriot William Billings (1746-1800) left a legacy of religious music. He was also one of the first to express an American idiom in his writing. Many of his works are still sung in churches.
