Glass, Philip

American Modern Period composer Philip Glass was born in 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied at the Juilliard School, with Boulanger in Paris, and with Indian musicians Ravi Shankar and Alla Rakha. His emphasis in the mid-1960s was on minimalism but he later progressed to more complicated pieces. Most of his work since the mid-1970s focuses on the theater.
