Reinecke, Carl Heinrich Carsten R Composers Composition

Carl Heinrich Carsten Reinecke (1824-1910) was born in Altona, which was then part of Denmark. His compositional career was mainly in Germany. While he composed some 300 pieces, his name has faded and he may be better known for championing Mozart and Beethoven and for the books he wrote about them. He was a teacher of Isaac Albeniz, Leos Janácek, Christian Sinding, Frederick Delius, Max Bruch, Edvard Grieg, and others and a close friend of Niels Wilhelm Gade. He knew and associated with many of the Romantic Period's brightest stars, playing their music as well as his own. A book he wrote in 1900 involved recollections of many of these: Liszt, Ernst, Schumann, Jenny Lind, Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient, Ferdinand Thieriot, Brahms and Mendelssohn. He died in Leipzig, working until the end of his days.
