Scarlatti, Alessandro S Composers Composition

Italian Baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) was teacher of Hasse, Geminiani, and his son Domenico. He is sometimes regarded as the father of Neapolitan opera (opera seria). He began as Maestro di cappella to the Queen of Sweden in Rome (1679), then held other positions before returning to Naples in 1708. Alessandro composed 115 operas as well as oratorios, Masses, cantatas (many solo), madrigals, concerti grossi, harpsichord and chamber pieces. Handel met him and may have studied under him when visited Italy in the early 1700s.
