Strauss, Josef S Composers CompositionAustrian Romantic composer and conductor Josef Strauss (1827-1870) was the second son of Johann Strauss, Sr. to embark upon a musical career. Brother Johann called him "the more gifted of us two." Like his brothers, he first trained for another field; his first specialty was mechanical engineering.
