Fortepiano
Fortepiano is the term that is commonly applied to pianos built in an earlier period or style than the 20th Century instrument. They have a different tone and expressivity to the modern instrument. There were two main schools of mechanism: Viennese and English. The English was the precursor of the modern piano.
