This term is not well defined, but is often used to refer to the development of human culture around 100,000 to 200,000 years ago. Discussion continues between anthropologists, theologians, paleontologists and archeologists about when the terms "human" and "modern man" can be applied. This category represents sites concerning early societies which had some form of culture in terms of tool making, painting, burial rituals or other activities for which evidence has survived.
