Bundestag 1998 Elections Politics Society and Culture
1998 elections to the Bundestag (the German federal parliament). The Bundestag elections also determine the German government (in the British meaning of the word) as the chancellor is elected by the Bundestag. Prior to the 1998 elections the parties CDU (Christian Democrats) and FDP (Free Democrats) had the parliamentary majority and formed a coalition government under chancellor Helmut Kohl.
