Havering is a Unitary Authority and the second largest Borough in Greater London, with a population of around 230,000 and an area approaching 40 square miles, half of which is in the Green Belt. Havering has a short border on the River Thames and parts of Thames Chase forest lie within the Borough. Rural satellites to the north are Havering-atte-Bower and Noak Hill, with North Ockendon to the east and Wennington to the south.
