Mississippi uses a traditional state legislative system of government. The House of Representatives and Senate meet from January through April every year, and statewide elections are held the year before presidential elections. Mississippi governor Ronnie Musgrove was inaugurated in January 2000 and will serve through January 2004. Information on Mississippi politics can be found in Society and Culture.
