Orleans County is bounded to the north by Lower Canada, east by Essex and Caledonia Counties, south by Caledonia County, and west by Franklin and Lamoille Counties. The county lies between the eastern and western ranges of the Green Mountains. As of 2000, the population is 26,277. Its shire town is Newport.
