	Malynes, Gerard de People Economics Malynes, Gerard de People Economics Malynes, Gerard de Gerard Malynes, born in Belgium of English parents, was a merchant of limited success. He served as the English commissioner of trade in Belgium and held other positions in the English government. In 1622 he published The Ancient Law-Merchant , which contained put forth many mercantilist ideas.
