Western Bulldogs
Footscray changed its name to the Western Bulldogs before the start of the 1997 season and achieved finals success immediately. Footscray joined the AFL in 1925 and has tasted premiership success only once -- in 1954. In 1989, the club was nearly forced into extinction by a proposed merger with Fitzroy.
