Major League Soccer

Major League Soccer is the United States' Division 1 professional men's league. It began play in 1996 with ten teams: Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, Dallas Burn, DC United, Kansas City Wizards, Los Angeles Galaxy, New England Revolution, New York-New Jersey MetroStars, , San Jose Clash, and the Tampa Bay Mutiny. DC United beat the LA Galaxy in the first MLS Cup. Following disappointing attendance, the league folded the Fusion and the Mutiny after the 2001 season, returning the league to ten teams.
