North American Aboriginal Horse Mounted Cavalry
North American Aboriginals (Canadian, American, and Mexican native peoples) developed a profound horse culture soon after European colonists re-introduced the horse to the New World.Aboriginal cavalry served as regular and irregular forces until the end of the nineteenth century, sometimes in alliances with Old World powers (e.g. with Britain against France in the 18th century inter-colonial wars), sometimes in North American conflicts (e.g. in alliance with Canada in defence against the American invasion of 1812), sometimes against colonists to protect their own lands (e.g. against the United States in the Indian Wars).
