Based on the novels of Dashiell Hammett, Nick and Nora Charles created a memorable witty screen couple unlike anything seen on film before. Played by William Powell and Myrna Loy, they solve mysteries, ably assisted by their dog, Asta. The first film received four Academy Award nominations and catapulted the stars to the "A" list in Hollywood. The Song of the Thin Man (1947)
