This category is for actors who have won the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. The first award recipient, Emil Jannings, was presented the award for best actor of 1927/28; he won for his acting work in two films: "The Last Command" and "The Way of All Flesh." Since that time, actors are judged for their performace in a single film released in the previous year of the award ceremony.Actors who have won multiple times will have multiple years next to their names. If two actors are listed for one year, that would indicate a tie in votes.
